Nothing to See Here

Knowing is half the battleI'm suffering from some writer's block on the new Love and Capes. I hate when this happens. I know what has to happen, I just need to make it happen, and preferably make it happen funny-style. Especially when this kind of block happens early in the process, I just feel like I'm burning days I'll miss when deadline crunch time happens.

Until then, and so I don't go too long without posting, here's a panel from a comic strip I've done for a client. They're presenting it next week, so I'm not revealing the name or what it's for. But I wanted to share some artwork, just to show I'm still alive and drawing.

And playing World of Goo. I got that with the MacHeist bundle, and man, it's addictive.

Cover Round-Up

Now it can be told, the cover I did was for the Ft. Worth Weekly. It's one of those indy alt-papers that I've done so much work for over the years. Here's the cover, complete with text and headlines and masthead and all of that stuff.

I handled most of the illustration elements separately, which allowed me to get in some nice detail in the Cowboy. The story is about how the big Stock Show (which is a Rodeo, for those of us in the North) that brings in tons of revenue to the city, but the city only gets a tiny fraction. So they wanted a cowboy roping a pile of money.

I changed it a little bit, making the money more of a sandworm (Dune, anyone?) so that there was a little more motion and resistance to the money. I think it worked pretty well.

CleveLand!

Mystery Board ColorI'm sure it'll come as no surprise, but the Mystery Game Board piece was done for Scene Magazine, in the issue that comes out today.

They're running a feature on Cleveland's screwed up politics, and wanted a CandyLand type game board with several Cleveland incidents on it. So, everything from the sink hole to the Ameritrust Building, to the County Commissioners, to National City Bank's troubles are illustrated.

Scene Magazine supplied me with a PDF of the finished version, which you can see by clickin' and embiggenin'.

I'm thrilled with the way this one came out. I think it's a great piece.
