Comics and Friends

As photographed by ace shutterbug and good friend Bob Ingersoll, here's a picture of my "mascot" along with the sign for Comics and Friends, the new comic shop in the Great Lakes Mall.

I'll be up there from 12-5 on Saturday for the grand opening, along with some guy named Frank Cho. I hear he draws comics.

New Love and Capes T-shirts Coming Soon!

Girl in a Love and Capes shirt!Hey, it's a picture of a model in a Love and Capes shirt. And it's about the same time as last year when I announced a new Love and Capes shirt. Could it mean…?

Yes. There will be a new Love and Capes shirt done in conjunction with Mid-Ohio-Con. It'll be the Con Crew shirt, and the VIP shirt. I'll have some made that I can sell here, too. So, if you're not going to be at the show and want one, now's the time to let me know. And, if you've been one of those people who wanted a larger size, or a babydoll or something, now is the time to let me know. It's a lot easier to make decisions about those early!

The shirt is the first one to feature Charlotte and Darkblade (as well as Amazonia, Crusader and Abby). It's a "sketch" shirt, designed to look like a lot of my originals do. Except not on crumpled paper and with coffee dripped on it. You can feel free to spill your own coffee on the shirt.

Love and Capes Sketch Shirt

The main design will be a ringer shirt, blue to match the simulated Col-Erase pencils on the shirt. Get one, it'll be awesome!

Now if only we could get someone from Big Bang Theory to wear it.

There's More to See Than Can Ever Be Seen

Doc Karma gets metaphysicalAhead of schedule, I have finished page ten. Now, don't get all hyper, I'm taking a little holiday until Friday, so part of my Barry Allen-like approach to the book has been to make sure I was clear before I left. I do have a post or two scheduled on the Blogginator, so I won't be completely quiet. I know you'll miss me.

In this exciting panel, we find out Doc Karma is a Broadway showtune kind of guy. Or a Disney film fan. Maybe both.

Lego my Crusader

I'm blessed with great Love and Capes fans. There's something about the book that draws people in and hooks them. And they're so supportive and so cool. Here's an example:

One fan, David, makes custom Lego characters. He repaints them, adds to them and makes them awesome. He's done the Justice Society, Watchmen, and now the Crusader.

I met him in San Diego a few years ago. This year, in his display case, was this:

From the four corners of the universe

From left to right, it's the Plutonian (Irredeemable), Samaritan (Astro City), a little character called the Crusader, and Black Adam.

Man, that's just a gallon and a half of awesome sauce. You can see more of his work here.

We're Going to the Chapel… soon

Love, exciting and neeeew

It's been a long haul with over 100 guests attending (and, by extension, 100 caricatures to do) but I finished the cover for Love and Capes #12. There will be two versions, the "Love" verson (featuring Mark and all other superheroes in civilian garb) and the "Capes" edition (featuring Mark as the Crusader, and superheroes in the congregation). They'll be a 50/50 split, but if you're an attendee, don't worry. You'll get the one with you on it. And I'll be e-mailing you soon about it.

The full cover images will be released sometime during Comic-Con next week. Hey, everybody else is making announcements, why can't I? But for now, enjoy the little thumbnails I've shown above.

All in all, the wedding cover promotion worked better than I could have hoped, and I think it's a really strong image. Thanks to everyone who participated!

The Wedding Issue

Love and Capes, Love Actually Style

I've finally started on the Love and Capes wedding cover. Well, covers, since there will be two of them. There will be just over 100 people, with almost 200 photos to pour over and check out. Here's a collage of the photos I've received, and no, you can't click and embiggen this time. I don't want to post them too big since I didn't ask any of the participants if I could do this. Still, it gives you an idea of the volume involved.

And thanks to Shape Collage, the software that really quickly popped this image together. It's a free download, and works on Mac and PCs.
