Every different nation, Spanish, Hatian, Indian, Jamaican
I'm getting silly about this now. I finished this page late last night, technically early this morning, and then I plopped in front of the couch to watch Life on Mars. I got to bed pretty late, but the page got done, and I got my 1973 fix.
Here's my panel from page thirteen, which features someone you've never seen… well, you have, you just don't know it… screaming about wanting some peanut butter and jelly. It's not the best panel on the page, to be sure, but everything else reveals something about the upcoming issue that's too spoilerish to post. So here you get a guy in a Star Trek-style cell.
After I clear page twelve, things seem to speed to the finish. With eleven pages left to draw, there are three pages already written, so just eight blank pages left. That's not bad.
(And, to any new readers, especially from the aformentioned Mental Floss readers, I post a panel from every page as I get it done, and every post has a song lyric for a title. There's a theme tying them together. See if you can guess it!)
Then it's me and my machine for the rest of the morning
I had a light client day today, mostly sending clients roughs and waiting for replies. As a result, I managed to bang out another page of LNC today. Here, we get a scene of domestic bliss aboard the Liberty League Satellite.
Two more pages in this sequence and then the story will break off in another direction.
I go for younger women, lived with several awhile
Things are really cranking along now, helped along by a couple of panels of really simple backgrounds. Here's a panel from page ten, where Mark is shaking off a hangover.
Okay, not really.
Branch water and tomato wine
Just finished page nine, a little earlier than I thought. I like it when the pages come easily.
I don't know if anyone will notice, but the device that Darkblade is pulling out is based on the Neutralizer that Rom the Spaceknight used. It's not a point-for-point duplicate, but it's clearly based on it. To me at least.
With page nine comes a new lyrics contest. This one will be harder that the previous ones, so bring your A-game.
Take Me to a Park That's Covered With Trees
I didn't expect to get this page done last night, but I did. I finished drawing it, at least. I dialogued it this morning. I was stuck on the joke for panel eight, and eventually it just clicked in my head.
With this, I'm one-third of the the way through issue nine, and now I'm where I should have been at the beginning of this month. Yeah, I'm running a little behind, but I can make it up. Worry not. And the next few pages are pretty well plotted out, so it's just a matter of drawing them.
Yeah, "just."
For now, enjoy this exciting panel of two women discussing the weather.
Devil May Care
Here's another recreation of a commission from Mid-Ohio-Con. Someone came up and wanted a "devil girl." No particular character, just something with that as a theme. That was pretty cool, to have that kind of free reign to create and design a character.
It required a fair amount of tracing paper to make it work, as there were a lot more overlapping shapes than I'm comfortable working out directly on a piece of bristol. I think it came out nicely, and looks even better colored.
God, the tension is high, not to mention the smell
It's another done-in-one-day page. I must be butter because I'm on a roll.
Not that you can tell from this panel, but there are some cool art things happening. Actually, this panel with an open border is one of those things, so maybe you can tell. The empty space really gives you a feeling for the large airy area that Abby's about to fall to her death in.
Whoops. Did I say "fall to her death"? I meant "Ghandi." Or something else innocuous.
As Sledge Hammer used to say: Trust me, I know what I'm doing.
Beautiful girls wearing nothing but pearls
Now this is more like it.
Yeah, page six only has five panels, and largely reuses the backgrounds I created for the last page, but still… cranking out a page in a morning is a good thing.
As far as what's happening, is this the end for comicdom's favorite super couple? You'll have to read the book to find out now, won't you?
Elektra. Woman.
I mentioned that I did a bunch of commissions at the recent Mid-Ohio-Con. I offer color commissions, but the deal is that I need to take the original home, or you need to send me a scan of the image. Well, a couple people have taken me up on that. One was George, who had me color this commission of Elektra from Daredevil.
This one came out nicely, and I think the color really makes it pop. So I now have my third piece for the next Powerful Women collection. Only Twenty-two left to go.
And I'll probably be posting more sketchesfrom MOC and Baltimore. Sometimes I start out working on tracing paper, and as such I have tracing paper versions that I can use to recreate the artwork. And, as long as I'm mentioning the Powerful Women collections, I should let you know that I have only a handful left, and don't plan on printing any more this year. So, if you want any before they get snapped up at WizardWorld Texas, order now.
