Local Designer Takes First Place… Twice… in Awards Competiton
Thom Zahler, owner and operator of Thom Zahler Art Studios in Timberlake, Ohio, has won two separate first place Apex Awards from the Lake County Professional Communicators.
“For my first year entering the competition, I’m more than thrilled with the result,” Zahler says.
Zahler won first place in Illustration for his “Where Am I?” piece, done for the Cleveland Indians’ “It’s Slider Time” feature in Game Face magazine. The illustration was a seek-and-find puzzle page, where children had to find Slider, various Indians players and umpires in a sea of over 400 people.
Zahler also won first place in Website Design for his work for Millwork Design Solutions. Millwork Design creates custom cabinetry and woodworking, and the site serves as sample portfolio and advertising piece for the company.
The Apex Awards are held annually and recognize excellence in print and graphic design, web design and video and broadcast work and are sponsored by the Lake County Professional Communicators. LCPC promotes and encourages responsible, creative, professional advertising, public relations and marketing efforts.
Thom Zahler Featured in MacDesign Magazine
Thom Zahler, owner and operator of Thom Zahler Art Studios in Timberlake, Ohio, will be a featured designer in the “Design Makeover” section of the July/August issue of MacDesign Magazine.
“I’m thrilled that Jake Wildman and the fine folks at MacDesign asked me to be part of it,” says Zahler. “It was an interesting challenge, and a chance to really show off my stuff.”
The “Design Makeover” section spotlights three graphic designers who are each given the same task of redesigning a project for a company or organization. Zahler’s task was to redesign the logo, business cards and letterhead for a Deca Manufacturing, a Florida manufacturing company.
“We were given guidelines on what the owner of the company was looking for, but they were pretty open. After that, it was up to us to work our magic.”
