Sean, replete in the majesty of the Rocky Mountains. |

We've got a beautiful country here.
This past weekend I flew out to Colorado for the dual purpose of seeing my brother John and my art school war buddy Sean.
Really the only bad part of the trip was the flying. The flights themselves were okay, the Windows 2000-like delays were not. As bad as it was for me, it was worse for Rob who met up with us out there. His flight into Denver was supposed to arrive at 9:00pm. It got in a little before 2:00 a.m.
That aside, the trip was wonderful.
|
I got to see John, his school and where he lives. I met a number of the kids he teaches, and loved them all. Well, that was probably because they thought John, almost three years my junior, was my older brother. "He's had a hard life," I told them with a smile.

The Sheridan Lady Rams put forth a valiant effort. |

I saw the last game of John's basketball team's season. He's one of the assistant coaches.
Unfortunately, they lost., I brought no luck to the team. You'd think after my years rooting for the Indians, I'd know my support means nothing. |
It was weird seeing and hearing John referred to as a teacher. "Mr., Zahler" indeed! He's still the snot nosed punk that I used to lose to in Donkey Kong and always will be. At one point, one of his students called "Zahler!" and we both turned.
And, despite John's seeming lack of ability to say "It was nice to see you," I enjoyed seeing the Taciturn One. And I think he enjoyed it, too. |

Rob good naturedly wears a Batman balloon hat at the behest our of senile older friend Sean. |

As with Rob and I, Sean's thirtieth birthday is this year. Sean's just happens to fall Feb. 28th, and that was part of the impetus for this trip. We've seen Sean a number of times since he moved to Boulder, but never actually in Boulder. We go to San Diego for the ComicCon, or see him in Jersey, but never on his home turf. |

He's got a nice life carved out for himself in the shadow of the Rockies.
Boulder's a great town, with a definite upscale college feel to it and... well, forgive me if this is sexist, but it's replete with all sorts of gorgeous college co-eds. Why did I go to an art school, anyway?
Sean took us into the mountains. Incredible views. I seemed to acclimate to the thinner air pretty easily but then again I wasn't trying to kickbox or anything strenuous like that anyway, Sean picked a great place to move to.
And we met a number of his friends, including Jeff and Daniella. They were great people, and they seemed to like us... showing they just haven't gotten to know us yet, obviously. Sean's dinner at one point devolved into a Kubert clip show, with us regaling his ladyfriend and Jeff with all sorts of highlights of the last ten years. Our respective ex-girlfriend debacles, funny school moments and as many embarrassing things as we could remember about Sean. Great fun was had by all.

One of the many wonderful views we saw while in Colorado. |

You'd watch this show, right? I mean, come on... it'd be better than Titans. |
|
Sunday ended our trip on a leisurely note, made even more leisurely by United Airline's inability to get a plane to leave within three hours of when they promised. Fortunately, Rob and I managed to spend the wait together, discussing all things great and small, as we are wont to do.
I'm going back to Colorado. When I don't know. It's a matter of work and vacation time and money and all sorts of things like that. But it's not for lack of desire. I've got to see that place in the summer. Clearer days, warmer hikes...
And, oh yeah, college co-eds in the warm, skin-bearing sunshine... |
